How can churches better support children and families navigating an increasingly complicated world? From childhood trauma and emotional well-being to the challenges facing today's faith leaders, these questions will take center stage when Flagler College hosts its annual Forum on Youth and Family Ministry, February 5–6, 2027, in downtown St. Augustine.

The two-day gathering invites children's, youth and family ministry professionals, church leaders and volunteers to explore new approaches to connecting with young people, strengthening families and creating supportive faith communities. Through keynote presentations, interactive workshops, worship and fellowship, participants will gain practical tools and fresh perspectives to bring back to their congregations.

This year's forum will feature two nationally recognized speakers whose work explores the intersection of faith, trauma, mental health and human connection.

Amanda Purvis, Vice President of Global Impact at All God's Children International, brings more than 20 years of experience in child welfare and developmental trauma. Her work focuses on helping children and families heal through trauma-informed care, healthy relationships and supportive communities. A mother of five, Purvis emphasizes the extraordinary difference that one caring adult can make in a child's life.

Joining her is Dr. David C. Wang, a licensed psychologist, professor of psychology and spiritual formation at Fuller Theological Seminary, and pastor of spiritual formation at One Life City Church in California. His research explores emotional resilience, clergy mental health, trauma recovery and the development of emotionally healthy Christian leaders. Wang's work highlights the importance of caring for the emotional and psychological well-being of those who serve others.

Together, the speakers will bring perspectives on two closely connected challenges: helping vulnerable children and families thrive while equipping ministry leaders with the emotional and spiritual resources to support them.

The forum is part of Flagler College's broader commitment to exploring the relationship between religion, culture and community. Through its Center for Religion and Culture, the college supports initiatives addressing the needs of young people, including efforts to help congregations become more welcoming and supportive of children who have experienced trauma.

For local churches and ministry volunteers, the event offers an opportunity to learn from experts, exchange ideas with fellow faith leaders and return home with practical strategies for making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.

Registration will include lunch in Flagler College's dining hall. A detailed schedule of workshops and presentations, along with registration information, will be announced as the event approaches.
